DNS Setup Guide

How to add a CNAME record (or A records for root domains) at the most common DNS providers. Follow this after adding your domain in LearnerFast under Domains → Add Domain.

What record do I need?

Domain type Example Record type Value
Subdomain (recommended) www.yourschool.com CNAME cname.learnerfast.com
Root / apex yourschool.com A IP addresses shown on your domain card

Why the difference? DNS rules don't allow a CNAME record at a root domain (it would conflict with the SOA and NS records every domain must have). That's why root domains use A records instead.

Before you start

  1. Make sure you can log in to your DNS provider's dashboard.
  2. Know whether you're setting up a subdomain (like www.) or a root domain (no prefix).
  3. Have the LearnerFast Domains page open — it shows the exact values to copy.

GoDaddy

Add a CNAME (for www)

  1. Log in to GoDaddy → My Products
  2. Find your domain and click DNS
  3. Click Add New Record
  4. Fill in:
    • Type: CNAME
    • Name: www
    • Value: cname.learnerfast.com
    • TTL: 1 Hour
  5. Click Save

Add A records (for root domain)

  1. Same DNS page → Add New Record
  2. Fill in:
    • Type: A
    • Name: @
    • Value: (first IP from your LearnerFast domain card)
    • TTL: 1 Hour
  3. Save, then repeat for each additional IP address

Tip: If a www A record already exists, delete it before adding the CNAME — they can't coexist for the same hostname.

Cloudflare

Add a CNAME (for www or root)

  1. Log in to Cloudflare → select your domain → DNS tab
  2. Click Add record
  3. Fill in:
    • Type: CNAME

    • Target: cname.learnerfast.com
    • Proxy status: DNS only (click the orange cloud to make it grey)
  4. Click Save

Important: Proxied mode (orange cloud) will break LearnerFast's domain verification. Always set it to DNS only (grey cloud).

After saving your DNS records

  1. Wait 10–15 minutes for the changes to propagate. Some providers can take up to 24–48 hours, but most are much faster.
  2. Go back to your LearnerFast Domains page.
  3. Click Verify on your domain card.
  4. Once verified, your site goes live on your custom domain automatically.

Common issues

Issue Solution
Verification fails after waiting Double-check the record type and value. Use DNS Checker to see if your record has propagated globally.
"A record blocking CNAME" error Delete the existing A record for www before adding the CNAME.
Cloudflare proxy breaking things Switch from Proxied (orange cloud) to DNS only (grey cloud).
Root domain stuck on pending Make sure you added A records (not CNAME) with the IPs shown on your domain card.
Wrong DNS panel If your nameservers point to a hosting provider (not the registrar), you need to add records in the hosting provider's DNS panel, not the registrar.
